Peter Jones
Managing Director
Peter Jones was the Chief Executive Officer of the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) up until 31 July, 2009 when he retired. ATI was a regional multilateral development institution created in 2001 with the technical and financial support of the International Development Association of the World Bank Group with the objective of developing trade and investment within the African region in partnership with the private and public sectors, in order to transform Africa into a prime trade and investment destination through the provision of insurance and financial products that mitigate the political and commercial risks associated with investment and trade finance. During his time as CEO of ATI Mr. Jones successfully implemented a legal and capital restructuring, including the expansion of the Agency’s product offering to ensure that it meets the full needs of the private and public sector in Africa. ATI was subsequently assigned an ‘A’/Stable international credit rating by Standard & Poor’s for both its financial strength and counterparty limits. Mr. Jones has a wealth of experience in facilitating investment into and between in sectors including agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, hotels, housing, manufacturing, mining, power generation, roads, telecoms and textiles.
Prior to joining ATI Mr. Jones held various positions of seniority at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). During his tenure at MIGA Mr. Jones contributed to the management of MIGA’s key financial and risk objectives and strategies as well as managing the Agency’s relationships with other multi-lateral institutions and bilateral agencies and private sector financial institutions. This included a period as the Underwriting Manager for all guaranteed investments in the financial, agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors. As a Vice-President at Export Development Canada (EDC) Mr. Jones was responsible for all of EDC’s business operations in the Transportation sector, as well as for the establishment, development and management of its equity investment program. This included sitting on the boards of the companies in which EDC was an investor. This experience, together with his senior positions at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and ANZ/Grindlays Bank, has provided him with wide ranging skills and experience in identification of viable equity opportunities, including successful exits.
Mr. Jones is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He successfully completed the World Bank Group’s Executive Development Program at the Harvard Business School in 2000.
